Novice Course 2022

In our Novice Course we offer training in beekeeping theory in an informal classroom setting, followed by practical beekeeping sessions at our apiaries.

The next theory course for novices will be run this Spring, as follows:

  • Monday  28th February at 7:00pm
  • Monday    7th March     at 7:00pm
  • Monday  14th March     at 7:00pm
  • Monday  21st March     at 7:00pm
  • Monday  28th March     at 7:00pm

    plus possible follow up session on Monday 4th April.

    Cost:
    • £40 for individuals or 
    • £70 for a couple/pair living at the same address.

      Introduction to bees and human involvement with them – Tim Vivian
      Honey bee biology and hive products – Bob Powell
    • Week 2
      Structure and function of beehives – Chris Broad
      Essential equipment and apiary hygiene – Dave Lantsbery

    • Week 3
      Inspecting bees and record keeping – Bob Powell
      Swarming; prevention and control – Chris Broad
    • Week 4
      Features of a healthy colony; pests and Diseases – Chris Broad
      Beekeeping resources – Mike Bickerton
    • Week 5
      Getting started; obtaining bees and siting hives – Chris Broad
      Ongoing training and experiences of recent novices – Bob Powell and recent novices

    • Week 6
      Possible session to hear about the recent novices’ experiences and a frame making practical
